How many hits per second can Terraria handle?

How many hits per second can Terraria handle? To test this, I modified the Musket Ball   projectile to have infinite piercing,  infinite lifespan, zero immunity frames,   and most importantly, 99 extraUpdates.  Basically, this means the Musket Ball   will update 100 times per tick instead of  once, meaning it’ll also attack 100 times  

Per tick instead of once. Just one of these  Musket Balls attacks 6,000 times per second.  If I set these bullets’ velocity to 0 and  damage to 1 and put it on a target dummy,   you can see how many hits it’s taking in the  form of DPS. It’s round about 6,000 – it’s  

What we expected. So, let’s fire a few more. It seems like the game stops registering new hits   past around 50,000 hits per second. My framerate  also starts suffering too, and if I keep firing   more bullets, I start seriously lagging and my  hits also stop registering. My DPS is going down! 

So, it seems like the practical limit is 50,000  hits/sec. What about an absolute limit? Well,   I 10x’d the hits per second  and let’s see if it’ll crash. Uh oh.
