Terraria: Drills are worse
Pickaxes are better – this time, proven with math.
If you have the time to swap out for an Ancient Chisel every now and then (1 second), then you can reap the benefits of the Pickaxe.
Stop wasting materials on the Terrarian drill, all hail the Terrarian pickaxe.

Note: This is my opinion only. You can use whatever you want, we don’t live in a Terrasteelian Dictatorship

  1. Am u the only person who likes the VRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRRVRRR

  2. I almost always play terraria with the minimum amount of actual mining possible- since it's probably the most boring part. Since drills are only usually relevant in early hardmode to post golem, and since by then digging blocks for more than 5 seconds at a time is rare (at least for me, since I use bombs and don't focus on tunneling), drills are more convenient. Ambrosia isn't a gurantee since you have to both find the shimmer biome and bring a fruit over there. Because of my playstyle's minimum mining focus, spending flat time upgrading mining speed is far less effective. I would make the argument that switching between an accessory slot (which you have to find) to get a low speed boost isn't worth the time it would take to hotswitch to a drill and excavate whatever short tunnel or ore node happens to be a priority.

  3. So I guess I just don't understand your argument. With a setup that includes taking one of your accessory slots and a item that is post mech, pickaxes beat drills. Compared to crafting a drill and not having to worry about any of that. If you don't like the sound that's valid, you could make a resource pack that changes or gets rid of the sound 🤷‍♀️. Idk I just don't see the argument. Why would do a setup to make pickaxe good when drills don't need any setup.

Personally I don't have a preference, I just like playing devils advocate but in this case I just didn't understand the argument.

  4. You know what's funny. Every time i see an ancient chisel, I either ignore it or delete it, so I have no idea where to get one now LOL. That, and Im too lazy to literally double click from time to time, that's why I dont even reforge

  5. I was going to say that getting the Light modifier is a pretty big ask, but Nasty, Quick, Agile, Deadly, and Legendary are all good enough (when combined with the Ancient Chisel or Mining Potion) to make the speed on par with drills without the range deficit (if I did my math right), so… still checks out.

I guess, if you're just going to use it casually, the drills are perfectly fine, but, if you want use equipment and buffs to mine more quickly for, say, a larger mining job, pickaxes are better.
Laying it out like that, I might end up making both in my next playthrough– at least for Orichalcum.

  6. Honestly? Im just gonna use both chisel and mining potion. One right click and one drink and now i have a fuckton of mining speed for 8 minutes, enough for whatever i need to do.

  7. To be fair I do like drills as to me they feel satisfying to me though I'm aware pickaxes are better but to Me I just like drills since I like the sound the make the design for them and how fast then mine stuff as well along with them being different from pickaxes since with pickaxes well you have them since day one of your journey while drills exist once you enter hardmode

  8. 2:46 idk if they changed it between then and now or what, but you can just right click the accessory in the vanity slot to switch the two

so it's now HALF the gruelling process to switch to your chisel
