I could not having made this video without the help of Quasar. Most of the designs, particularly in the advanced section, came from him, as did the details on the technical side of hoiks. He is the reason this video has more depth than the wiki page on hoiks, which is severely lacking. Quasar has a written guide on google drive with some hoik explanations, which may provide more detail than what was in this video. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1V3B0beo4F5M5X5FvNIA04i13eTlsXKif?hl=fr

ZeroGravitas, the person who originally discovered and coined the term “hoik,” has an old video on item hoiks that I got my info on them from. You can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUSFFvl0uZM. I am not aware of any improvements in item hoiking aside from conveyor belts allowing size 1 items to be hoiked in more than just rightward ceiling hoiks.

The forum thread on heart statue optimization can be found here https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/showcase-the-fastest-possible-heart-generator-statue-farm.79848/

  1. In theory, you can reduce the screen movement of the invincibility machine by building it either at the top or bottom of the world. The screen lock occurs based on the screen range, so zooming out fully results in the screen locking in a larger range. Not sure if it would reduce it completely but it would reduce it mostly.

  2. One thing that bothers me with Hoiks, is that mages got as massive nerf because they didn't want players to be invincible. To the point an armor was effectively destroyed and Mana Sickness was added. All while it was still possible to do similar things with niche builds. Hoiks do this again without any items but also break progression something that caused items to get nerfed.

  3. 29:35 To solve this problem: Mod the game to lock the camera in place.
I solved the problem with my mine cart trick by either making the track so small, it doesn't move the camera more than 1 pixel, or by making the track so long it doesn't even matter anymore.

  4. Gah! Rainworld spoiler flashbang! (Not really a very bad one but a warning might be nice :p. Really cool video tho, I do quite appreciate the reference!)

  5. 15:34 A note about this RoD farm: it wouldn’t work as shown. (Edit: I have been corrected, I did not know shadow candles were a thing)
    Here’s why:
You can’t be standing behind a player-placed wall.
You can’t be standing still unless you’re hooked onto a block or on a mount.
The enemies have to be directly attacked by the player, but I can’t remember if summons are counted or not.

  6. This is probably the coolest terraria video on a mechanic that I didn't know was so amazing. I'm using this for the dungeon guardian right now. Thank you for being awesome!

  7. I haven't watched the video yet, I wanted to pre-comment that I hope you cover item elevator hoiks
I have a design for a simple 3 wide setup with conveyors and actuators that can convey and lift any item of any size, won't hook the player out and won't elevate enemies.
there's an example of it on my wasteless pre-ml overnight afk dungeon farm guide.
I have a 2 wide setup too but it won't hoik long weapon sprites up. keyblades and snipers break that one.

  8. Man, I wish I'd known about this stuff when I was playing the game.

As far as I'm aware, this wasn't even known about before I stopped playing. I totally would've used hoiks if I knew they were a thing.
