The story behind the dwarves sounds a lot like the dwarves' story in Skyrim (the Dwemer basically tricked the Snow Elves into becoming the Falmer)

fact : rabbit foot now is not actually use their foot but it's a cluster of fur that they're shed .
So it no harm for rabbit anymore , since it's use as a lucky charm so everyone love them except Penny from some reason.
I think she might thought that it was harm to animal or allergic of animal fur or she just don't believe in the myth since she reading a lot of book.
oh also the rabbit foot is related to witchcraft and dark art. that's maybe it reason enough that someone don't like it.
Maybe the real Dark Secrets in Stardew Valley are all the friends we made along the way.
