Ive just recently finished a playthrough with all The classes (though ranger I did a while back) but I have to say that personally, mage wins early hardmode with so many good weapon choices and easy damage, range and so on. The terraprisma is a beast but against moonlord summoner can struggle because lack of range, unless You go like a tank summoner build. So id say Pre moonlord mage might just have the edge with the more consistent damage. Lastly, I think the zenith is kinda cheating, since the other classes havent got anything like this and it was added just to be a new broken final sword because favouritism to melee. So endgame id also say summoner or mage (though like i said, its been the longest since ive played ranger) and also the new melee is also very good through the whole game with the terrablade family being reworked, though it also just got nerfed a little bit too. But overall a good ranking and i can definitely agree with most of the points!👍
I’m very new to this game and am trying to get through a whole play through for the first time alone, but I personally like using a combination of mage and ranged. Mage has so many cool moves that do a lot of damage and once my mana runs out, I start using ranged waiting for my mana to recover. I’ve used this in the past when playing with friends and it’s a deadly combination.
pre hardmode – ranger nothing can beat the first 4 bosses easier and more reliable than a bow and arrows of choice EoC you will most likely be using a bow since there really isnt any other options and Brain oC jester arrows puts the boss to shame and the skeletron and queen bee is when you can lean more towards your preferred class like mage but i 99.9% find ranger to be the best cause it still offers the highest dps and along with a hellfire bow and arrows it shreads skeletron and queen bee HOWEVER i would like to note like that final stage before you get into hardmode where youre preparing to build your hardmode farms and beat WoF etc melee is probably the best choice since the nights edge buff its just so easy to use since now you have the good gear you dont need to be worrying about dying as much and the nights edge just shreds any enemy and can even be a very solid if not kinda broken weapon to use against WoF
early hardmode – summoner same reasoning as you said you can get solid weapons at the very start of the stage and spider gear you can just instantly get without needing to mine for ore so if you just want to make an anvil and furnace but dont want to waste time mining for titanium gear spider gear can be a very good secondary and you can use the sanguine staff to defeat twins a few times and use the loot to craft the twins summon and ore to craft a hollow set which does nothing but buff summoner and if you ever feel like it can just switch off another HOWEVER if you arent exactly confident with summoner and feel like you take too much damage ranger would be your next bet cause it also shreds the twins and pretty much every mech boss with a simple titanium and repeater setup and theres really nothing else to say about it just again high dps and decent defense
post plantera – mage i disagree with melee cause true you can get the true nights edge etc i feel like its damage kinda lacks compared to the other classes expecially mage cause its when you start to get better gear with mage and still deals just as much damage as ranger to bosses and even something like the magical harp can deal with plantera with relative ease and it increases AGAIN after you defeat plantera cause the dungeon offers the gear you will need for endgame with spectre gear
post moonlord – tie between ranger and mage (leaning most to ranger) around this stage ranger and mage SHREAD anything cause around this time you got the things like razor typhoon and tsunami for ranger and the dps puts summoner and melee a run for their money and after you defeat the pillars it only increases when you get the final gear for moonlord i didnt say summoner cause i feel like its kinda cheating to put the terraprisma as a post moonlord weapon and just an oversight on the devs part but i wont lie that the terraprisma can deal just as if not a better job than both ranger and mage but ik a lot of people like using melee the most but i CAN NOT STREES enough how high dps mage and ranger pulls off during endgame where ik you have things like the solar eruption for melee and high defense but you can defeat moonlord at least 20 – 30% faster than a melee
overall class rankings 1. ranger (by far the most reliable class and NEVER is too weak and often can deal the most dps) 2. mage (even though it lacks SLIGHTLY in pre hardmode it offers close dps to ranger and can also be a solid choice through the whole game) 3. summoner (lacks A LOT during the first stage of pre hardmode once you get the good gear i say after you get hellstone after the first 2 bosses and terraprisma if you want can shred) 4. melee (offers the most defense ik but the boss capabilities lack through the whole game and only gets better once melee isnt really melee anymore and it is the best pve class for the most part but summoner can have the same effect and still do better against bosses)
I play on mobile so I don't know if I suck or not, but I actually beat Plantera using Full Chloropyte (Ranged Variant) with a Megashark and Cursed bullets (No Arena at all). I don't know why but I struggled when using my Full Turtle Armor and True Night's edge.
Sanguine staff can be gotten early, if you are lucky and already have Bloody Tears. Without Bloody Tears it's a huge pain in the ass to get. Terraprisma is an even bigger pain in the ass to get as you have to trial and error a lot to beat the boss during day time. I feel like ranking classes should be geared towards beginners more, since experienced players can beat the game with anything. This is why I rate ease of access much higher than you do in my rankings.
Here is my rankings: Pre-Hardmode: Ranged (Guns, Bows, Jester Arrows), Magic (Meteor set is op and easy to get) Early-Hardmode: Melee (Amarok, Ice Sickle + higher defense), Ranged (Daedalus, Repeaters), Mage (Meteor staff is very easy to get) Pre-Plantera: Melee (Death Sickle, True Excalibur, Yelets, True Nights Edge), Ranged (Mega shark, Repeaters), Mage (Meteor staff) Pre-Moon Lord: Melee (Terra blade, Seedler, Eye of Cthulhu, get Daybreak prior to ML fight and the Dragon Summon)
Only reason I prefer Melee over ranged and mage pre-Moon Lord is because Truffle takes a while to get for Shroomite bars and Ectoplasm takes quite a bit of farming too for Mage. By the time I usually have enough Chlorophyte ore I also have 3 turtle shells for the Turtle and Beetle armor.
Before golem: Ranger>Summoner>Melee>Mage Before moon lord: Melee=Ranger>Summoner>Mage Post moon lord: Melee>>>>>>Ranger=Summoner>>Mage Ps:Mana sickness is a bitch.
see, you got the melee class and it has high dps right? for start of the game melee armor set with ranged weapons would be best approach as max protection would be more sweet rather than small armor boosts maybe throw in a summon as well and oh my god you'll definelly need that extra defence against bullet hell that is eater of worlds anyways after it dies you might wanna raid underworld and thats where summoner starts to accualy HURT and for the ranger you kindaa don't have anything worth talking but the mage ia now the ranger makes sense? ok cool but oh my god the melee the volcano accualy hits like a truck (you know… when bats don't deal over 100 dmg and have like 300 hp) Then after getting curbstomped by skeletron spamming thousants of mages around him effectively 1000v1 ing you you get the kitchen gun and the mage accualy becomes mage and melee gets a game derailing weapon then you get curbstomped by few thousants of empowered imps spawning in your wall of flesh arena anyways after this fight is done melee falls bit weak but meanwhile the summoner gets god sent sanguane staff and ranger gets the dart rifle and cursed flames which is again a god sent Then mage gets few goofy spells that do unreasonable amount of damage you know just casual after that you might wanna idk? rush straight for mechs Well then you get the god sent flamethower and megashark mage gets few goofy items that don't do that much damage if don't really commit to them and then at this point melee starts to feel like a class designed for survivability rather than dealing damage so you naturally start to hate it after defeating plantera though OH BOY AFTER DEFEATING HER your boy ranger gets game breaking armor set and casual stuff like rocket launchers, snipers, assault shotguns, better flamethower… you name it mage gets a insane boost thanks to ectoplasms and now accualy does ungodly amount of damage summoner has a new pretty toys which makes him deal THOUSANTS OF DAMAGE per fraction of seconds that little tiger is a hellspawn a menace to society and omg don't get me started on terraprisma melee though… melee with addition of terrablade is no longer melee you do anything besides meleeing with addition of terrablade its obvious that melee is no longer avalible for dealing lots of damage exept if you get that corruption spear(forgor the name) if you are on crimson world uhh… cry about it and for just before moonlord for pillar weapons though mage at this point is a unstopable force summoner deals unreasonable damage ranger is even better and melee is back to its old glory
ranger is best for all except post moonlord imo also I feel like mage is worse at every stage, its like ranger with cooler weapons but youre a glass cannon and use mana. Its also weirdly grindy compared to melee and ranger.
I am a mage main and the only reason i play mage is because its strong with its attacks but can die very easily so i can see why you never put mage in one of them i like mage because its a glass cannon

As a mage main, I can confirm this video is correct. Mage is only for masochists lol

I don't even consider the Terraprisma as pre-Moon Lord seeing as how daytime EoL is harder than Moon Lord
Mage is absolute glass cannon, high damage but no defense
Range is way to go
Dude mage beats out Melee on plantera unholy trident and venom staff S H R E D
On a tier list earlier you said summoner was the least good and now you say its the best at most parts of the game. Did you change your mind?

i just like playing every class at once
Broooo whyyyy the mage should win pre Plantera with golden show and venom staff

I played terraria for 3 years and I only use melee and range or combination of both. I still don't know how ro play mage and summoner.
i taste the rainbow. I just have all of them
pre hardmode: ranger
early hardmode: ranger
hardmode: ranger
pre moonlord: mage
endgame: warrior
Summoner is really good tho
I'm use mage and melee
For me u should use ranger for bosses melee for normal and like exploring and mage or summoner for endgame
Alright so just never use mage alr
I like combining all 4 and just swapping between them as I go. They’re all great to use and are all viable in hardmode
Before golem:
Ranger>Summoner>Melee>Mage
Before moon lord:
Melee=Ranger>Summoner>Mage
Post moon lord:
Melee>>>>>>Ranger=Summoner>>Mage
Ps:Mana sickness is a bitch.
Ranger is the beat against Plantera because Ichor and Clorophyte bullets and a Megashark goes crazy you can beat her in under 3 minutes.
I used melee in all of my playthroughs
in my opinion everything feels bit mixed
see, you got the melee class and it has high dps right? for start of the game melee armor set with ranged weapons would be best approach as max protection would be more sweet rather than small armor boosts maybe throw in a summon as well and oh my god you'll definelly need that extra defence against bullet hell that is eater of worlds anyways after it dies you might wanna raid underworld and thats where summoner starts to accualy HURT and for the ranger you kindaa don't have anything worth talking but the mage ia now the ranger makes sense? ok cool
but oh my god the melee the volcano accualy hits like a truck (you know… when bats don't deal over 100 dmg and have like 300 hp)
Then after getting curbstomped by skeletron spamming thousants of mages around him effectively 1000v1 ing you
you get the kitchen gun and the mage accualy becomes mage and melee gets a game derailing weapon then you get curbstomped by few thousants of empowered imps spawning in your wall of flesh arena anyways after this fight is done melee falls bit weak but meanwhile the summoner gets god sent sanguane staff and ranger gets the dart rifle and cursed flames which is again a god sent
Then mage gets few goofy spells that do unreasonable amount of damage you know just casual
after that you might wanna idk? rush straight for mechs
Well then you get the god sent flamethower and megashark
mage gets few goofy items that don't do that much damage if don't really commit to them
and then at this point melee starts to feel like a class designed for survivability rather than dealing damage so you naturally start to hate it
after defeating plantera though OH BOY AFTER DEFEATING HER
your boy ranger gets game breaking armor set and casual stuff like rocket launchers, snipers, assault shotguns, better flamethower… you name it
mage gets a insane boost thanks to ectoplasms and now accualy does ungodly amount of damage
summoner has a new pretty toys which makes him deal THOUSANTS OF DAMAGE per fraction of seconds that little tiger is a hellspawn a menace to society and omg don't get me started on terraprisma
melee though… melee with addition of terrablade is no longer melee you do anything besides meleeing with addition of terrablade its obvious that melee is no longer avalible for dealing lots of damage
exept if you get that corruption spear(forgor the name) if you are on crimson world uhh… cry about it
and for just before moonlord
for pillar weapons though
mage at this point is a unstopable force
summoner deals unreasonable damage
ranger is even better
and melee is back to its old glory
i'd say for every stage the superior classes are:
pre-boss: ranger
post-eoc: mixed(ranger in melee set)
post-boc/eow: mixed (ranger in melee set)
post-skeletron: melee
hardmode: ranger/mage
post-mech: melee/summoner
post-plantera: summoner/ranger
post-golem: summoner
post-cultist: summoner
post-pillars: summoner
post-game: does it even matter?
ranger is best for all except post moonlord imo
also I feel like mage is worse at every stage, its like ranger with cooler weapons but youre a glass cannon and use mana. Its also weirdly grindy compared to melee and ranger.
I’ve always mainly used tank sword builds but when I fought bosses I used all ranger gear
Moon lord is a coward cat in front of cloropyte bullets
For the pillars, mage is the absolute best. (Im also a mage in the game.)
