Minecraft realms have always been targetted at extremely casual players, clueless parents and small groups of friends. But are they actually worth it? Or are they actually a poorly disguised scam?

My bet is that mojang shadowbanned you because you are vocally against them so they throttle your connection as an FU
My friend got a realm for us to play (theirs 3 of us) and when he checked his banks statements it turned out Microsoft was charging him for 3 realms instead of just one for months. This also happened to another one of our buddy’s. Realms is a scam 100%. You also get like 1/3 the render distance on realms then anywhere else and the range at which chunks load and work are DRASTICALLY smaller then normal.
A lot of isps now have a service to help you port forward without needing a single ounce of networking knowledge. If your isp doesnt offer this, port forwarding is still incredibly easy we dont need to give microsoft any free money.
I ran a bedrock realm and would run into random disconnections a lot. On a 2.5 gb world I didn't have any slow connections unlike others, but the price for what you get is not worth it. I now run that same world on aternos after I pruned the world down to 200 mb and it works fine.
The thing that I think would be a huge thing is if they made Realms cross platform between Bedrock and Java. I know that will likely never happen but from my admittedly extremely brief looking around, most 3rd party server hosts will only allow you to have one port open. When I set up a server hosted in a Linode VM I had whitelisted ports 19132 and 25565, utilizing a plugin that allows bedrock players to connect to it. However that limitation was for console players (a lot of my friends play on their nintendo switch) they couldn't join third party servers without hacky workarounds. Microsoft/Mojang are willing to die on the hill that Bedrock won't come to MacOS or Linux, so give us at least that much.
From personal experience, I think Realms is a good starting point to get your feet wet with server hosting. However, on the complexity spectrum, I think they've gone too far towards the simple extreme. I'm now at the other extreme of self-hosted with Docker on a Linux-based server. I think server hosting sites (eg. Shockbyte, MCProhosting, Apex Hosting) fall somewhere in the middle, which is not easy; being simple and user-friendly enough for most people while simultaneously offering advanced features for those that know what they're doing
I haven't watched the video but you can get a server litterally for free so why would you want a realm?
I had to cancel my credit card as there was no option to cancel the subscription,
You are so good mister epic
Nice vid
Keep it up
I tested it and send it to gtfo 🤣
I didn’t liked it
i get that message all the time… it seems a slight bit better now…
you have dreams guy, they will never ever improve realms xd
I hope this gets pinned so every knows, the continuous disconnection issue that “MisterEpic” is experience is exactly the issue I had randomly a year later. It tends to be most common with the server owner and it IS A YOU PROBLEM. Now I’m not saying it’s your fault if it happens, but it is something that must be changed on ur own side of things to solve. There many MANY different “solutions” which is unique to one’s self, but typically it has to do with ur internet and how it connects to ur pc. I don’t recall exactly what to do (I’ll reply with the website/videos that guided me to solve this, which were in a dark corner of the internet) but you must open ur CMD and something else and allow something that becomes disabled. Idk why but it solves the issue, tho that is only 1 of many ways to solve the issue. Again it’s very unique to everyone
Thank you based Notch, I guess for this???
These limitations might be in place to save as much money on the realm as possible. I don’t remember completely, but don’t realms also shut off when no one is playing, and start when someone joins? It may well be the case that they are overprovisioning them (basically more realms than a server can handle, betting that not all of them will be used at once).this may be why they sometimes are laggy and sometimes fine
have you considered not playing video games and moving out of mommies basement?
